Updating your Home with CoContest: The mere thought of renovating your current home will surely give you an overwhelming feeling. First, you might think that the best choice would be hiring an interior designer.

You no longer need to hire a traditional interior designer. Instead, you can take advantage of a website like CoContest, which will help you in crowdsourcing interior design. The website is a promising alternative because it will allow you to enjoy several interior designs online and architect online submissions. Instead of paying one interior designer, you can use the same amount as prize money for a design contest to be hosted by CoContest, such as with the example mentioned below.

The Contest

An Italian client joined CoContest with a $1,400 advanced package requesting for renovation of the entire house. One of the requirements is to maximize the use of a garden, which is currently not being used. Much of the renovation work required is focused on the kitchen, with the client requesting for increased brightness and space. The living room is also asked to be given special attention, with requests for improved lighting. Other specifications include having a small bathroom, a boy room, guest bedroom, double room, attic, and basement.

The Submissions

In one of the online submissions, the removal of the wall separating the kitchen from the living room has been suggested and having it replaced with a steel beam instead. In addition, the design also suggested demolishing the slab on the south side of the house, which will create an attic and easy access to two of the rooms in the house.

More so, in the second submission, minimal restructuring works have been suggested. It also recommends the removal of the stone wall separating the kitchen and the living room, which is going to have a window opening, making it still connected with the other areas of the house. It also incorporates the use of contemporary furniture and home décor to create a modern-looking living space. Light colors are used, which helps in making it appear more spacious and airy.

In the third submission, the design is focused in the use of earth tone colors, such as different shades of brown, which can be seen from the flooring, furniture, and the walls. Accent lights with simple designs are also used to highlight specific areas within the house. Instead of using a traditional table, bar stools and high table are incorporated in the dining area, which is now directly connected to the living room, creating more space. A small mirror is also placed on the living room to create an illusion of space.
