Having a degree in architecture and in interior design gives you the pleasure of being able to design your own places, which makes sure it will be attuned to your specifications since you know the ins and outs of the design practice.

Those who are knowledgeable in design solutions, whether traditional or contemporary, will not only be able to design their own place, but can also work for clients. And most importantly can join in online competitions to gather not only price, but also the bragging rights for the winning design from a specific competition.

Recently, a German company specializing in the construction of prefabricated homes launched an igloo design competition via CoContest. There, the company paid $999 to have it launched and to gather entries from architects all over the globe. The rule of the competition is simple, which is basically to design a house in the shape of an igloo. This will present the company with new design ideas, which can then be applied to their future works, with all due to credit to the one who have submitted an entry. In the rest of this article, you will learn briefly about some of the entries received.

Environmentally-Friendly Dome House

In one of the entries submitted for the contest, a green design has been presented, which shows how it is sustainable for the environment. The highlight of the design is how the whole dome turns out to be a garden. This is going to be perfect for people who have a green thumb and those who have a penchant for gardening. The ground floor is a large open space, and the top of the igloo provides an ample amount of sunlight to help provide the nutrients needed by the plants in the garden.

A Dome House without Architectural Rules

While there are certain rules followed in the field of architecture, this igloo is made in order to show how one can deviate from these rules and still come up with an acceptable design. The heart of this entry is the stairs, which can be considered as its most defining feature. There is also a structural glass to create warmth. It is built to be a quarter of a sphere and has an opening in the roof to utilize natural air.

An Igloo Combining Traditional Material with Modern Design

While this entry makes use of wood, which is one of the most traditional materials in the field architecture, the interior design is very contemporary, making it perfect for modern families. Upon entry, you will be confronted with an indoor garden, which makes the place more relaxing. There is also an outdoor terrace, which also comes with a BBQ area in the center, perfect for entertaining guests.
